Sadie Stein over at Jezebel posted about the Ecko jeans website. Here are some screenshots from it:
You know, sociologists often talk about the ways that labor is made invisible and how globalization has obscured the people and working conditions behind our clothing and other products. I’m so glad I can finally put a face to some of them.
After reading about the different women, you can vote for your favorite. In one of the “news” stories, titled “Unattractive Girl Sues Ecko!”, we are reassured that Ecko hires only hot women. As the plaintiff explains,
“So what if people mistake me for a pot-bellied pig,” snorted Ms. Oner. “I’m a damn good worker.” (Independent research confirmed that Oner does bear an uncanny resemblance to the domesticated breed.)…”Everyone in our factory can do their job,” explained the head of human resources. “But the difference is that our jeans are made with love by hot girls.”
I assume you have enough of a sociological imagination to think of how to use these–gender and objectification and etc. etc.
UPDATE: In the comments, pharmacopaeia directed our attention to this New Zealand ad for Tui beer, which uses the same theme but in a more over-the-top, parody-type fashion:
Thanks, p.!
