BURTYNSKY: FACTORY WORK IN CHINA

In two recent posts, I included photographs by Edward Burtynsky.  One featured his images of mines and oil fields; the other featured his images of massive recycling efforts.  In this post, I feature his images of factory life in China.

Deda Chicken Processing Plant, Dehui City, Julin Province (2005):

Bird Mobile Manufacturing, Zhejiang Province (2005):

Youngor Textiles, Ningbo, Zheijiang Province (2005):

Shift change at a shoe factory, Gaobu Town, Guangdong Province (2004):

If you’ve enjoyed these posts on Burtynsky, I recommend a documentary about his work called Manufactured Landscapes.

I just finished reading “Factory Girls” by Leslie T. Chang, I’d definitely recommend it! After reading about the scale of these factories the pictures have an even stronger impact.
