Colby King and Matthew Cazessus provide a deeper look into these shrinking communities and explain how these sculptures work to maintain a sense of community and reaffirm local place identity in the face of dramatic demographic changes and economic uncertainty.
Authors
Colby King is in the sociology program at the University of South Carolina. He is also the founder of the Postcards of Place blog, which each Wednesday shares postcards collected by filmmaker Amy C. Elliot during the filming of this documentary, at postcardsofplace.com.
Matthew Cazessus is a professor of sociology at Greenville Technical College. He studies spatial inequalities related to race/ethnicity, housing, and opportunity.
